The Foundation of my Work

MY APPROACH TO AYURVEDA AND PROFESSIONAL MASSAGE

My creative massage work is rooted in the foundations of Ayurveda and Professional Massage. Like professional and Registered Massage therapy (RMT), Ayurveda Massage advocates clear communication between therapist and client, therapist sensitivities that engage the whole person, and informed self-care suggestions.

Respectful and safe treatment sessions develop from establishing clear communication between the client and me from the initial booking. Both professional and Ayurveda massage require a medical case history form, a signed waiver, release form, and an informed verbal report about the massage techniques before commencing treatment. Communication starts from the moment clients’ book their appointments: for this reason, online or phone bookings are part of providing that safe and respectful place for my clients. My website, advertising, and the ambiance of the massage studio are all forms of communication and a reflection of how I choose to invite my clients in my healing space and how I propose to use my skills in accordance to the studio space.

From this perspective, I hope that my clients will understand how my advertising and ambiance become essential communication tools for their health and well-being. Both professional massage and Ayurveda massage share a strong camaraderie for clear communication because beyond the visual and verbal cues lies a much more subtle form of communication: Touch.

Because both massage modalities are preferred to be done in silence, unless the client needs to express something, where there is full physical contact between therapist and client for sixty minutes or more, trust is paramount in every session. Like professional massage, Ayurveda massage engages the whole person; therefore, the clients' emotions need to be considered and respected.

The power of touch and silence can release the clients’ emotions that they may or may not have communicated during the initial consultation. Both massage modalities stress the importance of providing a supportive and safe experience for the client without allowing the therapists’ emotions to become triggered. For this reason, both professional and Ayurveda massage stress the importance that the therapist maintains a healthy lifestyle so that they can put their emotions aside in a therapeutic setting.

Also, massage practices invite, empower, and enable clients to implement customized self-care suggestions daily for their general health maintenance program. I give my clients recommendations based on their case history forms, their verbal concerns or complaints, any information that came out during the session, and any new or future health goals that they would like to implement in their lives. I customize client self-care in accordance to the clients' health goals and needs.

On the contrary, professional massage differs from Ayurveda massage, as it does not exercise a spiritual or metaphysical component in its language. It has different techniques for desired healing results, and it does not require the client to undress fully on the table.

Unlike registered massage, Ayurveda massage has its principles rooted in spiritual philosophy. Meaning Ayurveda observes the interdependent relationships between man, nature, and the cosmos to understand the mind, body, and spirit relationship known as the human condition.

While Ayurveda approaches massage techniques in terms of energetics, professional massage has its methods rooted in the body's science, only as a physical entity, instead of a multi-dimensional entity. Although these principles seem contrary to each other, they are similar because Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, can be understood through the science of physiological language catabolic, metabolic, and anabolic.

Ayurveda sees the multi-dimensionality of a person on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. We are not only physical entities but also part and parcel of creative intelligence interconnected with the fabric of nature and the cosmos.

My approach to massage blends not only massages modalities of the East and the West but also takes into consideration something more ancient: The human soul. Ayurveda and its living knowledge integrated into the science of the West has given me the confidence and competence to trust my intuition not only as a therapist but also as a physical, emotional, and spiritual being.
